Another Woman is Killed by her Husband: 17th case this year of a deadly attack on a BC woman by her male partner

[VANCOUVER, B.C.] 64-year-old Jaswan Pandher was killed by her husband in her Surrey home on Sunday – November 23.

Jaswan Pandher is the 12th woman who is killed by her male partner since the beginning of the year. At least 5 more women survived the attempted murder from their male partner.

Hilla Kerner, spokeswoman for Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter says: “Today, November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Governments and communities all over the world are using this day to strategize and plan how to end violence against women but the government of British Columbia is silent.”

“We are troubled and angry” Kerner adds “and we demand immediate actions. We want the premier to respond. We want to know what she is going to do to protect women in British Columbia from male violence.”

In the past few months—in light of so many deadly attacks against women in BC—advocates from Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter have been calling on the province to take immediate action including: diligent police response to women reporting male violence, provision of adequate legal aid to battered women, and raising of the welfare rate to enable women to live independently.
