UCLA
Study On Friendship Among Women
A landmark UCLA study suggests friendships between women are special. They shape who we are and who we are yet to be. They soothe our tumultuous inner world, fill the emotional gaps in our marriage, and help us remember who we really are.

Commentary on the Statistics Canada report
on Shelters and Transition Houses
There's
no reason to think that April 15 last year was any different
than any other day. It just happens to be the date Statistics
Canada took a snapshot of family shelters in Canada.
And
it didn't get a pretty picture.
On
that day, there were 3,287 women and 2, 999 children residing
in shelters across Canada. Hiding from violent men might
be a more accurate way to describe it, because three quarters
of the women were there to escape abusive relationships.

Feminism in the Transition House
There
has been a great push toward methods of professionalism
in our work in the transition houses and it will take
every effort on all our parts to fight back and hold onto
our practice of feminism. Feminist frontline workers saw
our responsibility to the women who use our transition
houses as being one of revolutionary practice for political
change.

Young Women are an Active Part of the Women's Movement
Young Women are in. Girls rule, spangly nail polish and barrets
are fashion accessories no girl with breasts bursting
forth from a baby tee can do without, and the Women’s
Movement has abandoned young women to our bad music choices.
All those women from the 60's and 70's refuse to let us
enter the movement, doncha know.

Fear of Feminism, Why young women get the willies
Some
people may argue that young women have far less to lose
by becoming feminists than do older women: they have a
smaller stake in the system and fewer ties to it. At the
same time, though, young women today have been profoundly
affected by the demonization of feminism during the 12
years of Reagan and Bush--the time when they formed their
understanding of political possibility and public life.
