OF JOB OPENING
Deadline: March 21st, 2010
Vancouver Rape Relief and Women's Shelter is currently hiring for a full time contract position. This is a one year contract.
We are a women-only feminist collective, active in Vancouver since
1973.
We are looking for energetic women who are not afraid to mop
the floor, sit with a woman through a pelvic exam or advocate
to a police officer, sometimes all in the same day. You will do a combination
of work required to operate a 24 hour rape crisis centre and a shelter
for battered women with their children. We are a feminist organization
run by a collective. In addition to a rape crisis centre and shelter
we provide support education action groups, recruit and train volunteers,
raise money and initiate public discussion about sexist violence.
You will adapt quickly to this unique job situation which will require
the best of your empathy skills, thinking skills and determination
to be someone who makes a difference. You will be challenged and
supported to think and act effectively on behalf of raped, sexually
assaulted and battered women.
Skills we are looking for include basic office skills, ability
to quickly get informed about social services, community services,
current events. You can think and speak independently and apply
your knowledge effectively. You will have an informed opinion and
you will assist your co-workers (volunteer and paid) to do their
best work.
Credentials will only be valued as much as work experience.
We are especially, but not only, interested in applications from
First Nations Women, Working Class Women, and Women of Colour.
