On Friday November 16th,  Bowling Teams from various local businesses throughout the community filled Grandview Lanes Glow Bowling for a night of bowling challenges, costume competitions and fundraising cheer for Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter.   Creativity and enthusiasm were the biggest themes of the night as bowlers came dressed up in fluorescent wigs, fake beards, real beards, and cereal boxes.

On May 29, 2012 members from Vancouver Rape Relief and Women's Shelter joined pro choice activists at the Vancouver Art Gallery. We gathered in response to the anti-abortion campaign sought to repeal Canada's abortion laws.

There were about a third or fourth more bodies in support of pro-choice of women's reproductive health/choice than the anti-abortion/anti-choice group. We also had a sign that said "honk if you're pro-choice!" and we got tons of supporters.

A massive thank you to all the people who walked the walk for Rape Relief!

To all of the donors and the volunteers whose contributions made the Walk for Rape Relief 2012 an outstanding demonstration of community support in ending male violence against women.

If you were unable to join us on the day it's not too late to make a donation!

You can still make an online donation here:

On Friday November 18, 12 enthusiastic teams filled Grandview Lanes Glow Bowling with zany costumes, team chants and fundraising spirit for our First Annual Bowl-a-Thon.

Our Means Will Condition Our Ends

July 6, 2011

For the purpose of this conversation, let's accept that we continue to agree that “the personal is the political” and that “no woman is free until all women are free.”

We inhabit a gendered world not only oppressive to women, but also infused with homophobia and ableism, nationalism, militarism and masculinist ideology.

Generations of women are divided not only by experience, but also by changing material conditions and sexist mythology.

As Prostitution and Rape Marginalize and Oppress So Feminist Solidarity Resists

July 7, 2011

Violence against women (whether rape, wife abuse, incest or sexual harassment or prostitution) not only exploits women’s unequal status, but enforces that lower status and inequality. It is not only a set of incidents of the subjugation of individual women, but also a power that enforces women’s subjugation as a group.

Reform and /or Revolution?

July 5, 2011

We define “reform” as positive changes that may buffer some women, but operate within the existing Patriarchal power relations which hold men (both individually and collectively) over women

We define “feminist transformation” as revolutionary changes because they affect the fundamentals of those Patriarchal power relations (of the individual men and group men over women) toward an egalitarian and liberatory future.

We are Living in the Belly of the Beast of Patriarchy

July 4, 2011

Women and especially Aboriginal women experience the oppressive force of the state in the form of colonialism.  As well, all women face state tolerance of (inaction against) sexist violence and state economic practices and policies that exploit and impoverish women creating their vulnerability to attack.
