Response to Attacks on Women in the West End
Tuesday, July 8, 2003 Vancouver- On Wednesday July 9, 2003 beginning at 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm women from the Support, Education and Action Group (S.E.A.) - a group of women organized by Vancouver Rape Relief and Women's Shelter, will be putting up posters, leafleting and talking to women to take action agains teh ongoing sexual assaults on women in the West End area. The S.E.A. Group will begin their leafleting at 1400 Robson Street on the corner of Broughton and Robson outside the the Empire Landmark Hotel. We will then proceed down Broughton Street toward Barclay where recent attacks on women have been reported. This year there have been several reports of men attacking women in many local neighborhoods- with little to no information about the attacker. The posters announce a brief description of the attacker who grabs women from behind, ususally in the groin area. We know that he is native or hispanic, 20-30 years of age, five foot-eight to five foot ten, 160-180 pounds with short brown or black hair, usually seen wearing dark clothes and runners. -30-
